There are a number of frameworks to which we return again and again that support the work of collaboration, coalition building, and creativity. We’re glad to share a sampling of those with you in service to your goals.

Liberation

A number of scholars have written about socialization, oppression, and liberation. We keep coming back to Harro’s Cycle of Socialization, Love’s Liberatory Consciousness, and The Four I’s

Vents

Vent Diagrams have transformed the way we can talk about difficult and nuanced topics. While it’s possible to make vents on any topic, we especially appreciate the vents on antisemitism from the project by Jews for Racial and Economic Justice.

CLEE

Through our work as educators, we came to participate in Critical Friends Groups and the protocols that emerge from that body of work to help educators examine everything from discernment about an assessment to getting to the essence of a text. Here are are few of our favorites: Final Word for discussing text; Future Protocol for Strategic Visioning; and Coffee Talk for cross-pollination and reflection.

Question Formulation Technique

We love the QFT and use it as both a diagnostic tool and a tool to deepen analysis. Originated as an organizing tool by Puerto Rican parents outside of Boston, we’re always grateful to have been introduced to the tool.
